Posted: 11_08_2005 Debating evolution Part III
I've just become aware of a discussion about my Los Angeles Times piece advocating a debate over intelligent design, on The Panda's Thumb web site. It includes a long and heated rebuttal from one of the site's editors. I will leave readers to draw their own conclusions, although I must say that to me this demonstrates the dogmatism of some organized opponents of the Intelligent Design movement. With 87% of the American public believing either in ID or straight out creationism, Darwinians need to find better ways of getting through to people--which is what I suggested, to the scorn of some! I have, however, been heartened by messages from some scientists who may disagree with my proposals but nevertheless realize that I am looking for a way out of the current impasse. |
